Known for popular vaping kits such as the Wenax Q Pro and the L200 Classic (which we have previously reviewed), Geekvape’s Sonder Q2 is an upgraded version of the original Geekvape Sonder Q.
But how does this new version compare to the original and is it worth spending your money on? Let’s take a deep dive into this fun, intuitive device.

TPD compliant kits will have a 2ml 0.8ohm pod compared to a 3ml 0.8ohm pod for standard kits.
Sonder Q Vs Sonder Q2
The Sonder Q2 has received a number of upgrades compared to its predecessor including a boost in power and battery. Here are the main comparative upgrades the Sonder Q2 received:
- Power – up 5W from 25 to 30W
- Battery – up 35% from 1000mAh to 1350mAh
- Material – more durable Aluminium Alloy from plastic
- Pod Compatibility – Loose RDTL 0.4ohm pod cartridge added to the Q Pod range
Build quality and design
Right out of the box, the Sonder Q2 impresses with its sleek, pocketable design. Upgraded from the plastic casing on the previous Sonder Q model, the new Sonder Q2 has been crafted using aluminium alloy, a much sturdier and durable material. The move from plastic to an aluminium alloy body gives the device a sleek, high quality feel whilst still remaining lightweight.
While not the most miniature pod system on the market (measuring 23.7mm wide and 112mm tall), it’s compact enough to slip into a pocket without bulging, making it a perfect companion for on-the-go vaping.
The design is both simple and stylish, with a choice of ten vibrant colours to choose from. We were sent the Mocha Gold, Olive Green, Burgundy Red and Metallic Purple.
While the Sonder Q2 might lack a fancy digital display, it incorporates a fun LED light that serves two purposes. It indicates battery life through colour changes, letting you know when it’s time for a recharge. Additionally, it functions as a subtle style element that illuminates when you take a puff.
Usability
The Sonder Q2 is incredibly simple to use. Designed with a draw-activated firing mechanism. Simply inhale on the mouthpiece, and the device automatically delivers a satisfying draw of vapour.
There are no buttons to fiddle with, no menus to navigate – just pure, unadulterated vaping. This makes it an excellent choice for beginners who might find more feature-rich devices intimidating.
Battery life
One of the most impressive aspects of the Sonder Q2 is its battery life. At 1350mAh, it boasts one of the largest capacities in its class. A single charge can easily last a full day, or even two depending on your usage. This eliminates the constant need for recharging, a major advantage for busy vapers who are always on the go.
Adjustable airflow
While the Sonder Q2 prioritises simplicity, it doesn’t completely omit customisation. It features an adjustable airflow control slider located on the side of the device. This allows you to fine-tune the draw according to your liking.
Using the 0.8ohm pod included with the kit you’ll expect the airflow to be mouth to lung (MTL) vaping only. A loose MTL vape is achievable with the airflow open, which allows more cloud production. To get a tight MTL vape, close the airflow slider down. For an RDL vaping experience, you will need to purchase either the 0.4ohm or 0.6ohm Q Pods.
What refillable pods are compatible with the Sonder Q2?
The Sonder Q2 utilises the Geekvape Q pod series. If you already have a Geekvape device that uses Q pods, it means you will be able to use them with this device too! There are two styles of Q pods: top fill which features a pop-off top and 2ml capacity, and a new side fill style which is available in 2ml and 3ml capacity. Both types can be refilled without removing the pod from the device, which is very handy.
The new side fill pods have undergone a significant upgrade with the introduction of a rubber plug on the side to stop leakages and new colours to coordinate with their coil resistance. The pods are available in 2ml (TPD) and 3ml capacity, depending on your country’s regulations. For the UK and Europe, you will only be able to get the TPD 2ml pods.
The Q Pods utilise Geekvape’s VPU mesh coil technology, which is renowned for it’s flavour and vapour quality production. On top of that, the Q Pods come in a variety of coil resistances (0.4ohm, 0.6ohm, 0.8ohm, and 1.2ohm) to cater to different vaping preferences.
Lower resistance coils are ideal for those looking for more cloud production and a restricted draw, while higher resistance options provide a more discreet and cigarette-like experience.
The 0.8ohm Q Pod is included in your Sonder Q2 kit, however, if you want to switch to a different coil resistance you will need to buy the other pods separately.
Performance
While the Sonder Q2 might not be a cloud machine, it still is able to deliver a surprisingly good amount of vapour production if you require.
The overall wattage range is 5-30W and the Sonder Q2 will automatically set the wattage to the ideal level for the pod that you are using. The 0.8ohm pod that comes with the device has a wattage range of 12-18W.
The pod kits capability to accurately reproduce the nuances of different e-liquids is a delight. Whether you enjoy sweet and fruity flavours or rich and complex blends, the Sonder Q2 does a commendable job of bringing them to life thanks to the VPU mesh coils.
When drawing, the pod produces a warm and satisfying vapour. I have to say overall, it’s a very nice mouth-to-lung experience.
The coil also lasts a decent amount of time. For reference, I vaped around 20ml of e-liquid with the coil still performing well.
I also accidently dropped the Sonder Q2 a couple of times but I’m pleased to say it withstood any battering enforced on it.
Verdict
The Geekvape Sonder Q2 is a simple yet quality piece of kit that anyone, regardless of experience, can enjoy. Even though its designed to be budget friendly, it really doesn’t feel that way when using.
The upgraded aspects of the Sonder Q2 is greatly welcomed and a vast improvement on the original Sonder Q. Thanks to it’s straightforward approach, the Sonder Q2 kit is an easy recommendation for beginners, but also has the power and capabilities for experienced vapers to enjoy too.
